Gasoline is SO cheap in Venezuela. Like 5 or 6 cents a litre. 60 Bolivars. Consequently it's really cheap to get a taxi, indeed everyone seems to be a taxi driver in Venezuela, and buses are nothing... even plane rides are pretty cheap ($50 Caracas to Margarita).

Vehicles, consequently are more expensive to get, so once gotten, they keep them. And when they break, they fix them. And there are many cars on the road that look like they've been fixed plenty of times. And ones that look like they've been entered in a demolition derby. And lost.
